Naïve by Stateside

Stateside are an alternative rock band from Brisbane, Australia and their sophomore EP, titled Naïve, came out on May 25th, 2017. I had never heard of or listened to this band until a friend of mine recommended this EP.

Livingstone Road was my first impression of this band. It took a couple of listens for me to get into this song but once I did, I really fell in love with the band's sound. This Is War is a track I loved from the moment I first heard it and it's more enjoyable with every listen. Neon is an incredible track overall, especially lyrically - my favorite lyrics in the song are, “You are the sun in every sky the light in the center of our lives; how did you lose the brightness in your eyes?" and I'm lost without a way to find you."

Jaded has a darker intro that contrasts with the verses and interested me. The lyric "speak your mind if you haven't lost it already" really stood out to me. The Way We Were is the lead single and shows a great vocal performance in the chorus. Hard To Love is a softer and slower track that I think really lets the vocals shine.

The EP was pretty good and there's some tracks on here I'd want to listen to again. I'm excited to hear what their debut sounds like, as I will more than likely be checking it out and I'm curious to see what their next release is like.
