Gossip by Sleeping With Sirens

Favorite Tracks: Gossip, Empire To Ashes, Hole In My Heart

Sleeping With Sirens are a rock band from California. Their most recent record, titled Gossip, was released on September 22nd, 2017.

Their 2015 record Madness was an experimental one for the band, where they started adding some pop elements for a little bit more variety in some songs while staying true to their post-hardcore roots with others. On Gossip, the catchy lead single Legends gave off an impression that the band may have gone in a more pop-leaning direction with this record, but is that really the case?

Partially, yes. There are definitely more pop-leaning tracks on here like One Man ArmyHole In My Heart, and, as mentioned before, the lead single Legends. On the other hand, there are some pop rock anthems-in -the-making to be found on this album from the third single to Cheers to the guitar leaning track, Closer, to The Chase, the track whose sound is the closest you'll get to the sound on their previous records.

The record opens up with the well-written title track, Gossip, and continues on with two amazing singles, the hard hitting Empire To Ashes and Trouble, which has one of my favourite vocal performances on here. The softer tracks on the record are I Need To Know, which is the one track on here I was iffy about at first, and the fantastic closing track, War

I like quite a few of the lyrics on here, some examples being "these days, lately I've been chasing shadows in the dark; I forgot the light" from Closer and "Everybody hurts, everybody's got scars" from Hole In My Heart.

Despite the band going in a very different direction than a lot of fans have been used to throughout the years and despite the drastic changes in their sound, Gossip really impressed me. From its catchy hooks and melodies to the incredible vocal performances to the relatable lyrics, this is an album I've constantly come back to since its release.
