Opener spotlight: Broadside opening on the Covers Only Tour in Portland, OR
Alternative pop-rock band Broadside hit the road this spring as direct support for metalcore cover band Our Last Night’s Covers Only tour. The Florida-based band consists of frontman Oliver Baxxter, guitarist Dominic Reid, bassist Patrick Diaz, and touring drummer Taylor Ewart of Like Pacific. This spring tour marks some of the biggest performances of the band's career to date.
Many of the shows on this tour have been sold out with concertgoers packing the venues early to catch the opener's performances. We caught Broadside’s performance on Saturday, April 27th at the Roseland Theater in Portland, Oregon. The venue had an upstairs balcony allowing for a wider view for fans to see the show from above as well as the general pit below. The band performed a variety of music from their discography intertwining songs from the band's 14-year career.
Broadside played a handful of songs from their fourth studio album Hotel Bleu. From that album, we heard “Stranger,” “Dazed & Confused,” and “Cruel.” As soon as Baxxter performed “Stranger,” front-row audience members could feel the energy radiating from the band’s performance of the song. From their 2017 album Paradise, we got to hear “Laps Around A Picture Frame" which is a favorite for fans who have been around longer. This is an emotional song for anyone who may struggle with anxiety. We also got to hear “King Of Nothing,” a heartfelt song that is more upbeat in tempo. I highly recommend you give Broadside a chance to listen to their music. As a longtime listener, you will not be disappointed. They continue to release bop after bop. We can’t wait to see what the band has in store in the future.
