When the End Began by Silent Planet

California rock band Silent Planet have been a band for almost 10 years and throughout that time they’ve gained loyal fans by talking on topics that others sometimes stay away from. In 2017 they won the “Underground Band of the Year” award at the APMA’s and spent their summer on the 2017 Vans Warped Tour. They’re back with their 3rd full-length studio album.

This 14 track album is one that I believe both new and old fans will enjoy - with the bands metal roots coming through within the first few bars of the album but also throwing in some very meaningful clean vocals throughout the majority of the tracks that really rounds everything out. With songs like Northern Fires (Guerinica) taking on the topic of war and Share the Body talking about the struggles of opiod addiction it’s easy to see that Silent Planet aren’t going to shy away from their honest and real roots that were heard on the last two albums.

Throughout the album you also get two instrumental tracks that serve as a transition from one part of the album to the next - Look Outside - Dream and Look Inside - Awake. Both of them give you a chance to process everything that is talked about and also shows off the bands musicianship. You can also hear the energy that the band has in their live shows throughout a lot of the songs. For me, songs like Afterdusk and Visible Unseen are songs that I cannot wait to hear live and can imagine the crowd loving. There is also songs that show of the bands more experimental side that really pull the whole album together.

As a fellow fan of Silent Planet I can confidently say that this album is one for the books - it’s a continuation of the ever going story that the band is telling about life. From the lyrics to the sounds it’s truly an album that you’ll need to listen to more than once to fully catch everything within it, but that’s not a bad thing. This album holds so much knowledge and 10/10 musicianship that the band is known for.
