That's The Spirit by Bring Me The Horizon

That's The Spirit is the band's 5th album and you can see a dramatic turn of events between their first and this one.

That's The Spirit is the follow up album after 2013's Sempiternal which did amazing in both the charts and with fans. Needless to say, fans and critics alike were anxiously awaiting a new album to see if they would turn back to their hardcore roots and stick in the direction Sempiternal was headed in.

Well ladies and gentlemen, they did neither. Sure, you can here a little bit of the Sempiternal sound in songs like True Friends and Blasphemy and maybe a stray scream that resembles previous albums, but this is a new page for the boys.

The album starts off with a series of sound effects before you're hit with "Cut off my wings and come lock me up / Just pull the plug yeah, I've had enough" on the opening song Doomed. You can hear the more "poppy" sound that people were talking about. Plus, they've stepped up their sound effects and it sounds amazing.

The more you get into the album, you hear songs like Follow You that are a huge step from their hardcore sound that old school fans were used to. Possibly the biggest surprise was Oh No, which is the last song on the album, that has a sound similar to new Alternative music like Twenty One Pilots and Bastille, yet still sounds punk rock.

This is a give or take album honestly -- you either love it or you hate it. Personally, I love the direction the band is headed and I can't wait to hear these songs live. It's a huge step and maybe it's not your cup of tea, but I'm sure as one fan leaves, ten will come.
