A Review of Fine Line by Harry Styles from His Fans
It has been almost three years since the beginning of the hiatus of the popular British boy band One Direction. Since then all five members of the band have released a solo album(s).
Now, December 13, 2019, Harry Styles has released his second solo studio album, Fine Line. After the release of his first studio album the anticipation for the Fine Lines was at an all time high. The album features 12 songs that make you feel an array of emotions.
We asked his fans on Twitter two questions - what is your favorite song (off of Fine Line) and why? Here’s what they said:
Track 1: Golden
Golden can be described as a feel good song. One of my favorite things about this song is that the beat. I love that it made me smile within only a few seconds into the song. The song is truly “golden.”

Track 2: Watermelon Sugar
being in love is definitely like watermelon sugar, sweet & summery. i fell in love with this song the MOMENT i heard it; i swear i felt like i was on a beach sipping a drink with the person i would be with forever. i wanna be washed away in someone like harry is & that song makes it feel more than possible! not to mention the beat rocks & as harry said: “kiwi walked so watermelon sugar could run”

Track 3: Adore You
Adore You has a truly special place in my heart because Harry used a fish instead of a human to confess his underlying love for, imagine how he feels for someone.. a human he loved. When he says “you don’t have to say you love me, you don’t have to say you’re mine” just imagine how much he loved someone to feel like that. He’s putting his true feelings into his lyrics and that, right there, is lyrical genius.

Track 4: Lights Up
When I first heard Lights Up, it instantly just felt like it was made for me; the meaning behind it about self expression and freedom is just so powerful and relatable. Musically I just fell in-love with the gospel kind of vibe it gave, the guitar in this song was beautiful and the opening of the song could possibly be my absolute favorite part. Harry knew what he was doing releasing this as the first single, it set the stage for the different instrumentals in his new album that we didn’t see as much of in HS1.

Track 5: Cherry
Cherry is a perfectly honest juxtaposition of what life feels like post-breakup. After the initial sadness, realization sets in about life moving on. Cherry poses a relatable situation and holds all the gut-wrenching questions that we wonder about our others after a breakup, all while placed on an optimistic guitar track. The song shows the reality of moving on, but holds hope throughout the track. I love that the song is able to be soulfully heartfelt without being overly sad.

Track 6: Falling
When I first listen to Falling, I was completely shocked. Falling sounds so powerful. The lyrics are well put together, you can feel the sadness and the heartbreak in his voice. His vocals were so touching! It made me feel what he was feeling! This is truly a great song, filled with much emotion and thought!

Track 7: To Be So Lonely
The song that I absolutely love on the album (along with the others) is To Be Do Lonely. The first time I heard it I was thrown out of a loop, I thought it was going to be so sad and slow but I found it to be more upbeat than I originally thought. The lyrics flow with the music so well and the lyrics really describe how being lonely feels, especially my favorite line of the song, "don't call me baby again, it's hard for me to go home." But other than the sad lyrics, i think the melody might be my favorite part of the song.

Track 8: She
Well it really good my favorite part of the whole song is the guitar solo that has to be my favorite part of the whole song I mean the lyrics are amazing too but that guitar gave me so much like energy it just mad me want to get up and want to move idk if that’s understandable but it’s amazing

Track 9: Sunflower, Vol. 6
sunflower vol. 6 took my breath away multiple times while listening. it’s such a fun, lighthearted song with the sweetest lyrics. i think we all want to love somebody like ‘sunflower vol. 6. it’s so danceable and something i’d love to put on while driving around with my friends. the song puts an instant smile on my face. the lyric “i couldn’t want you any more, kiss in the kitchen like it’s a dance floor” is so special. overall i absolutely love it!

Track 10: Canyon Moon
As someone who is a big Queen fan, Canyon Moon definitely reminds me ‘39 by Queen. The lyrics are absolutely beautiful. Canyon Moon is definitely a feel good song that will lift anyone’s spirits. It’s a song I’ll dance to, a song I’ll listen to when I’m traveling, and a song that I’ll listen to on repeat. Harry definitely outdid himself with this song. His vocals are amazing and I have a feeling that he had fun recording and writing this song.

Track 11: Treat People With Kindness
It’s definitely Treat People With Kindness. I think it’s just such an uplifting song and when you listen to it you can hear the amount of love he has for that message. Plus it’s reminiscent of an older style of music and I think it’s just a fabulous way to share this message.

Track 12: Fine Line
As the title track expectations were high. It clearly means that Harry thought this song encompasses his album and really his experiences in recent years. I love this song so much, for more reasons than I can ever communicate, but I think the first thing that stood out was his first line “Put a price on emotion”. The words themselves and his passion as he sings it just broke my heart and I felt that pain coming from a difficult relationship myself. The devastation and surrender is so evident and moving that it took me right back to that place and made me consider how lonely it can feel when you just accept the situation for how it is. The rest of the song highlights what a fine line (pun not intended) exists in a relationship between making it work and just pushing for something that’s not going to work. It is both hopeful and hopeless which is a difficult place to exist in and even more of a challenge to articulate to others.
