A Conversation With Reptaliens
Portland synth pop rock band, Reptaliens invaded Seattle’s The Showbox while on support for Turnstile and Turnover’s co-headlining show on Saturday April 27th. I managed to meet up with them before the show to get to know them and interview them where we talked music, conspiracy theories, aliens and their latest album which came out the day before.
Reptaliens consits of husband and wife Bambi and Cole Browning.
After a few introductions I started my questions with a simple one, what’s been their favorite song to play on this tour so far? Bambi said that hers would be Venetian Blinds due to the “high energy it has and how the crowd responded to it” while Cole went with Baby Come Home because of the slow intro that goes into a more fast paced towards the middle.
The next question was if they had to choose between One Direction or The Jonas Brothers, which would they choose? After much thought they responded with specifically Kevin Jonas which of course earned a good laugh from everyone in the room.
Moving on from there I asked them about how the writing process on their latest effort differed from the process on their debut album FM-2030. Bambi explained that on their last album she did a lot of research into cult leaders and conspiracy theories to get the characters she wanted for the album, but on this latest effort they spent a lot of their writing time on the road and getting their recording times mixed up. They decided to make this album more personal and reflective of themselves, she explained that she was never much of a songwriter and being so reflective and personal scared her at first because she wasn’t expecting it so soon but now that the album has been released she is grateful to have done it.
When I asked them about what touring with a significant other was like and if there was any pros and cons to it Bambi said that there was more pros than cons because even at home they spend all their time together so being on on the road is not much different and the awesome thing is that they both get to be supportive of each other.
Reptaliens is a band that loves conspiracy theories, so obviously I had to ask them what their favorite conspiracy was. Cole responded with Paul McCartney (of The Beatles) actually died in 1967 and has been played by an actor the whole time because the band didn’t want to quit making music. Bambi’s response is that she believes that when the moon landing first happened in 1969 that there were actually moon colonies and that the astronauts claimed to have seen UFOs while on the moon.
Finally I asked them what they hope to achieve by the end of their career. Cole responded with that he hopes to make deep and sincere connections with fans.
Once the interview was done I hung out with the band and got to know them a little more until it was their time on stage.
