Underoath returned to Portland at the Roseland Theater, and they brought along with them Periphery and UK band Loathe. This was a great collaboration of amazing musicians, with a tour that offers a little bit for everyone while introducing them to possible new sounds.

United Kingdom band Loathe started off the show with the heavy hitting track “Broken Vision Rhythm.” They would continue with heavy hitting tracks throughout their setlist, most songs coming from their album I Let It In and It Took Everything. The vocalist, Kadeem, had high energy throughout the whole set, engaging with the crowd and running back and forth with the crowd bouncing with him.

Supporting band Periphery would continue the energy, opening with their 17 min track “Reptile.” Periphery had just released their new album Periphery V: Djent is Not a Genre on March 10th. For this set they played two singles off the new album, the tracks “Wildfire” and “Atropos.” For two tracks being out for a short period of time the crowd sang along without hesitation.

Underoath took the stage with an amazing theatrical entrance of lights, giving an eerie vibe, with the drummer Aaron giving a nice drum intro while every member came out to hype the crowd. They started off the setlist with the classic track “It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door,” engaging the crowd and keeping the energy going with an older track before leading into new songs.

Underoath's set was a great mix of old and new, showcasing all their best work across their amazing discography. Added into this set was a new track they had just released called “Let Go.” This fast-paced track was a nice breath of fresh air with a very raw and intense tonality, while having a great hook of a chorus, giving a vibe reminiscent of older material while still feeling new.
Another great addition to the set was having multiple percussive instruments on stage for the guitarist Timothy, and keyboardist Christopher each having what looked like a set of toms to play along to really amplify the low end to certain tracks. Underoath closed out the set with the classic track “Writing on the Walls” and everyone went nuts in the crowd, moving back and forth like one giant body of people. More than a year since their last appearance in Portland on their previous headlining tour, Underoath is better than ever, bringing a stellar performance. Between the lighting, the musicianship, and the setlist, it will definitely be a night to remember.
