Gingerbread Man by Melanie Martinez

Back in December, Melanie Martinez released a new song entitled Gingerbread Man. It was supposed to be a Christmas present to her fans and was only available to stream on YouTube and Soundcloud. After many requests, Melanie decided to release the song for fans to purchase on iTunes and Google Play.

Now that we're all caught up, let's talk about this song.

Gingerbread Man carries on the same type of vibe found in Cry Baby - childlike music in the background as Melanie's voice almost makes you want to melt. The sounds effects in the background really add to the almost dramatic effect that are common in her songs.

Now diving into the lyrics, it's kind of twisted, but in a good way. The song starts of with, "I'm frosting, I don't need a man to make my life sweet." Throughout the song, you get the vibe that Cry Baby is no longer looking for a sweet and kind relationship with a boy, but instead a more sexual and mature relationship with a man. Basically, Cry Baby has grown up and has found new confidence in herself and no longer wants to be the submissive little girl she was when she was younger, but now wants to be in control - almost like she's wants to switch positions with her previous lovers who would drag her in but then push her away. There are a lot of sexual undertones, but you probably won't catch it the first time you listen.

Have a listen and be sure to let us know what you think in the comments.

"I need a gingerbread man."
